Punjabi Chole / Chana - Garbanzo Beans

Chickpeas Garbanzo Beans Chana
II Chickpeas - Legume II

Ingredients:(Serves -- 4)

  • 1 1/4th cup Chole (medium size)
  • 2 medium size Onions (cut in long )
  • 2 medium size chopped Tomatoes
  • Garlic paste of 3 or 4 flakes
  • Ginger -- 1 inch piece (cut in long)
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves
  • 2 Green chili (finely chopped)
  • Salt, Red chili powder to taste.
  • Gram Masala to taste
  • 2tsp bhuna coriander powder
  • 2tsp bhuna jeera (cumin) powder
  • Amchoor or Lemon juice to taste.
  • 2 tbsp oil

Preparation:

  • Soak Chole in water overnight or for about 6 hr.
  • Cook the chole with salt in the cooker for about 20 minutes (till fully done).
  • Remove the water from chole and keep aside.
  • Take 2 tbs. of oil in a pan and heat it.
  • Add the garlic paste and chopped ginger fry till light brown.
  • Now add the chopped onions and fry until golden brown.
  • Now add chopped tomatoes and fry till
  • Add salt if needed, chili powder and amchur (if using ,not lemon juice)
  • Fry for 2 minutes.
  • Next, add the cooked chole & mix properly.
  • Now add the coriander powder, jeera powder and garam masala and mix them
  • Before serving add the water (kept aside) and allow 1 or 2 boils.
  • If using lemon juice add it now.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with Rice or chapati or paratha or Bhatura.
