II Gosht-E-Patiala (Meat,Spinach and Turnip curry)II


  • 1 kg mutton (cubed)
  • 1 cup turnips (cubed)
  • 3 cups spinach (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup fenugreek (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 cup onions (sliced)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder 
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • 4 tomatoes (blanched and roughly chopped)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup oil

Preperation :

  • Steam spinach and fenugreek and grind.
  • Heat oil, add onions and fry till golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and fry. Then add meat, turmeric and chili powder and fry well  until the moisture has dried up.
  • Add tomatoes and fry again. Add 3 cups of water and cook until meat is tender.
  • Then add the turnips, salt and ground greens. Boil for couple of minutes, add water if necessary.
  • When turnips are soft, take the curry off the heat. Transfer it into oven-proof dish, sprinkle with cardamom and garam masala powder.
  • Cover with kitchen foil and put on bake in a pre-heated oven for 10-15 minutes.

Note : If using pressure cooker use 3 cups of water. If using slow cooker reduce the quantity of water to half.
