Crotons, sippets, tale gtke

Croutons, also known as sippets or gutke, add decorative touch when served with soups. They can be made and stored in advance.


  • 2 thick slices of bread
  • Ghee / oil for deep-frying


  • Remove the crusts from the bread and cut into small cubes.
  • Heat the ghee / oil in a kadhai or deep-frying pan to almost smoking point.
  • Fry the bread cubes for about 2 minutes until golden all over.
  • When cooked, remove and drain on absorbent kitchen paper.
  • Cool and store in an airtight container.
  • Use when required, do not leave them in the open for long.
