II  Chicken Curry  II

Ingredients: (Serves 4)

  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • 2 medium onions (finely chopped)
  • 4 flakes of garlic (crushed)
  • 2 tbsp. tomato puree
  • 1 tbsp. chopped ginger
  • 1tbsp. lemon juice
  • 8 chicken drumsticks
  • 4tbsp./ 1/3rd cup curd or plain yogurt
  • 11/4th cups / 300ml hot water
  • Salt to taste


  • 4 cloves
  • 1 piece cinnamon stick
  • 4 black peppercorns
  • 1 brown cardamom
  • 2 green cardamoms
  • 1tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1tsp. red chili powder


  • 1tsp. garam masala powder
  • 1tbsp. chopped coriander leaves

Preperation :

  • Heat the ghee in a sauce pan and fry onions, garlic and the first five spices until golden brown.
  • Add the tomato puree, ginger, lemon juice, chicken drumsticks and turmeric and chili powders. Mix well and cook for 15 minutes over a low heat.
  • Mix together the curd, hot water and salt and stir into the chicken mixture.
  • Bring to boil then cover and simmer for about 30 minutes or until the chicken is tender.
  • Sprinkle with garam masala and coriander leaves before serving.
